My memories are in textures.

my mitochondria billowed by bass blown as fuel
to a sea of people— Blood memory;
and like the liquidy-laying that comes after a day swimming in the ocean,
when I close my eyes, my cells recall the cadence of her music.

I slept so well on that bus, stacked in coffin-like nooks— three people high.
was Womb-like & tomb-like,
humming walls held me like a baby ‘till
I’d wake to sunlight in a city I’d not yet been.

I can relate to the feeling of blood like lava,
with nerves so thoroughly frayed that it feels like your body is betraying you.
It takes a certain Strong-centerdness to get through it, strength in long-suffering.
